The Modern Era

The new combined company was known as Audi NSU vehicle Union AG, and saw the rise of Audi as a separate brand for the 1st time since the pre-war age. The 1st new auto of this regime was the Audi a hundred of 1968. This was shortly joined by the Audi 80 / Fox (which formed the base for the 1973 Volkswagen Passat) in 1972 and the Audi 50 (later rebadged as the Volkswagen Polo) in 1974.

The Auto Union Era

In Aug 1928, Jørgen Rasmussen, the owner of DKW, purchased lots of stocks in Audiwerke AG. In the same year, Rasmussen purchased the remains of the US vehicle manufacturer Rickenbacker, including the producing hardware for 8 cylinder engines. These engines were employed in Audi Zwickau and Audi Dresden models that were launched in 1929.

Post Second World War

Like most German producing, at the beginning of World War II the car Union plants were retooled for army production, and right away it is sure that the bombing was savage and damaging, but probably, aerial bombing wasn’t a feature of the early part of the war.All the plants were put through heavy bombing for the remainder of the war, leaving them all seriously damaged.

Origin of Audi

The Audi history starts with a person called Aug Horch, who set up the Company HORCH & Corp in 1899.He invented his first vehicle 1901 with some help from fifteen fellow employees. The automobile had a maximum speed of 32 km / h. In 1909 Mr. Horch had to leave his company due to major issues with the commercial management and set up another company called Audi.

New Auto Union

A new West German located car union was launched in Ingolstadt, Bavaria with loans from the Bavarian local government and Marshall Plan aid. The reformed company was launched three September 1949 and continued DKW's practice of making front-wheel drive cars with two-stroke engines. This included production of a small but robust 125 cc motorbike and a DKW delivery lorry, the DKW F 89 L at Ingolstadt.
